Watch out for fake police phone calls

Surrey Police has warned residents about scam phone calls.

Some callers are making their phone number look like an official police number.

Scammers may tell people to check a genuine Surrey Police telephone number online to make the call appear real.

Their aim is often to get personal information or money.

A police officer will never:

• ask for bank account details during an unexpected call

• ask someone to withdraw money

• ask someone to buy expensive items as part of an investigation

If someone claims to be a police officer, residents should contact Surrey Police using official methods to check.
