Extra support available for unpaid carers

The government has announced a new plan called Recognise, Refer, Reach. It helps unpaid carers get support earlier and access services more easily.

What is changing

The plan includes:

  • better identification of carers through the NHS App

  • new information for carers on GOV.UK

  • improved support for young carers

  • greater involvement of carers in hospital discharge planning

  • more support for employees with caring responsibilities from 2027

Why this matters

Getting recognised as a carer can help you access support, advice and information that may make caring easier.
