Winter mental health support
NHS Surrey Heartlands reminds people that mental health support is here for anyone finding winter hard. Cold weather, short days and a return to normal routines can make people feel low, worried or stressed. Some people may notice loneliness, loss or pressure more at this time. Existing mental health problems can also feel harder to manage.
The message is that no one is alone. Support is ready to help. Asking for help can feel hard but it is a positive first step. This includes people who are struggling, people supporting someone else or people looking for local help.
Crisis support is available day and night if someone is in immediate mental distress.
They can call the Surrey Mental Health Crisis line on:
• telephone: 0800 915 4644
• text: 07717 989 024
• text relay: 18001 0800 915 4644
Safe Havens across Surrey are open every evening and at weekends. They give immediate, non-clinical help. No appointment is needed. Support is offered in person and online.
People who feel low, anxious or stressed but are not in crisis can also get everyday support.
This includes:
• NHS Talking Therapies Surrey, which is free help for anxiety and depression. People can refer themselves and do not need to see a GP first
• GP and community wellbeing support, where GPs can guide people to local wellbeing and community services through Healthy Surrey and Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
More support is available, such as:
• support for adults through Healthy Surrey
• support for children through Mindworks Surrey
• mental health support through Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
