Opiate overdose prevention services
Healthy Surrey
Your local pharmacy offers a free naloxone service. Naloxone is a medicine that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose from drugs such as heroin, methadone, morphine, codeine and fentanyl. These drugs can slow or stop breathing, especially when mixed with alcohol or other substances. Naloxone helps restore breathing and can save lives.
In Surrey, this service is part of a wider effort to prevent drug-related deaths. Community pharmacies provide naloxone kits to:
- people who use drugs
- family members and carers
- hostel managers
- front-line workers
- anyone likely to witness an overdose
You do not need a prescription. It is recommended to call your local pharmacy first to check availability.
Naloxone kits are supplied by Surrey County Council and are available through pharmacies that also offer needle exchange or supervised consumption services
