Spelthorne U3A
University Of The Third Age
Spelthorne U3A (SU3A) began in 1997 with a membership of 130 and after a few years this had grown to over 500.
SU3A is made up of people who are no longer in full time employment but there are no lower or upper age limits. Meetings are usually held in the mornings or afternoons at venues in all parts of Spelthorne (mainly Staines, Ashford, Laleham and Sunbury). The objective of the U3A movement is to learn together in a relaxed environment – there are no qualifications or exams. There are no professional tutors - the group leaders are drawn from the membership (the idea being that we all learn from each other)
We have a General Meeting at the Salvation Army Citadel, Woodthorpe Road, Ashford TW15 3JY, usually on the second Thursday of each month starting at 2pm (entry from 1.15pm). A list of dates for the current year can be found on the events page of the website. At these meetings there is generally a speaker followed by an interlude for tea and biscuits where members can socialise, make contact with group leaders and sign up for various events which have been announced.
