How this site works

Getting to your toilet

If you struggle to reach or use your toilet, a home adaptation may help. Adaptations are changes to your home that make doing tasks safer and easier. These can be simple or major.

Simple adaptations

Simple adaptations include adding things like grab rails to your home. Your local council may offer help through handyperson schemes. Some works may be free, especially those that prevent falls.

Major adaptations

Major changes to your home can be more complicated. They might affect how your home is built. For example, you might need to change how your toilet door opens or make the doorway wider so you can use a wheelchair.

You may qualify for a Disabled Facilities Grant.
